Our history
Sønderup - from the very beginning
During our many years in business, we have seen constant change. But one thing has remained the same since 1991 – Empathy. It shows all over our business today, and it has been a ground pillar from the very beginning that we want to understand and respect our clients and our people.
To us, it is about prioritising. It is a priority to understand our clients’ history, background and direction, so that we can render the best possible advice with this as our starting point. This has a great part in making us the business we are today.
”Empathy is a value with a thousand subcategories. Basically, it comes down to respect and understanding. We are interested in our clients and our people - and we want to understand them as people as much as to understand their needs and challenges as a business” says Tom Sønderup.
When Tom Sønderup became a part of the audit firm Munch-Nielsen A/S in 1991, empathy was already a core value. Munch-Nielsen A/S was originally started in the 1940s by Alfred Munch-Nielsen.
On the basis of good values and the ability to find solutions and see opportunities, the audit firm Sønderup I/S has grown bigger - both by mergers with other audit firms sharing our values and by organic growth. In addition, it has also been a precondition for growth that our values have enabled us to retain and attract highly qualified people to work here.

”The philosophy is to produce a high-quality product. In addition to the skill, we focus on being there for people. And this also means that we see customers coming in, concurrently with our mergers", says Tom.
In 2008, we established a new business area, Payroll Services, as an integral part of our business. This business area has developed very positively, among other things because we have good relations with large players in the outsourcing market and with software suppliers within this area.
Concurrently with our expansions, Ole Rygaard Andersen and Dennis Cronbach have entered as partners and helped to establish a solid foundation for continued positive development of the overall business.
In 2020, Christian Hjortshøj entered as partner, and by 2022, we are almost 80 people in the business. Still emphasising the mutual respect, we keep developing, and in future, we will keep growing bigger - through
mergers and even more so by staying loyal to the people-values that have been our main quality since 1991.
Growth in itself is not a goal, but growth helps to create an exciting workplace with opportunities for each employee to find their proper professional and social place.
